Over 120 participants from the nine members of the European University of Technology (EUT+) gathered at the Technical University of Sofia in Bulgaria from 26 February to 1 March 2024 to discuss and design the strategic roadmap for joint European research and the convergence towards a European quality assurance system under the guidance of the Technological University of Sofia.

The expert review of the EUT+ application for research organisation states that the alliance could contribute important insights to EU policy making. United, the nine universities believe that they can substantially contribute to the processes of expanding the boundaries of European cooperation in the field of higher education and research. It has already been four years since the beginning of this ambitious project during which members have managed to lay the foundations of sound research collaboration across various fields such as data science, nanotechnologies and nanomaterials, microelectronics, mechatronics, clean technologies, philosophy and social sciences, as well as pedagogy and languages.

During the four-day meeting, member universities have worked intensely on the joint research roadmap, which will guide the future development of the alliance. The international cooperation in the strategic areas of the EUt+ will support and motivate a new level of development and effective use of the existing modern scientific infrastructure, and in addition will provide access to European and international scientific infrastructure for carrying out research studies beyond the existing fields. Essential parts of this process are the collaboration with industry and the international and regional mobility of researchers, which will facilitate the development of career paths of younger researchers and will foster cross-disciplinary and intersectoral research collaboration to the benefit of the whole European University of Technology.
