RTU Grand Graduation

This year, the 160th anniversary of RTU is being celebrated with an extensive programme and the main event of the celebration will take place on 1 July 2022, when not only the sixth RTU Grand Graduation will take place at Mežaparks Open-Air Stage, but also the 160th anniversary of RTU will be celebrated as a festival of engineering sciences. RTU Rector Leonīds Ribickis will gather the youngest RTU graduates, invite RTU and Latvian state officials - dignitaries and other guests to the culmination of 160 years of existence of Latvia’s largest engineering education institution and multidisciplinary technical research centre. During the event, the highest state officials will give speeches and currently the most popular Latvian performers will greet the audience with special musical performances, creating a special atmosphere of the Song Festival sing-along. The ceremony will also honour young PhD students and this year’s graduates, with a special focus on the most outstanding young engineers. And, as usual, the event will culminate in the much-anticipated salute of graduate hats, after which those present can continue to enjoy the festive atmosphere with musical performances. The event will also feature special engineering surprises from RTU, showcasing the latest technological advances in the sector.

Outline of the event:

  • 16.00 – open entrance at Mežaparks Open-Air Stage (distribution of gowns to graduates)
  • 18.00 – Diploma ceremony for graduates of the 2021/2022 academic year (honouring of outstanding graduates, salute of graduate hats)
  • 20.30 – RTU 160th anniversary concert

Throughout the event, there will be photo zones, the opportunity to get acquainted with all RTU faculties, participate in various engineering activities and challenges, visit RTU Engineering Exhibition and learn about the most ambitious achievements in the field of science. RTU souvenirs, as well as snacks and refreshments will be available for purchase on site.

Graduates are required to register for the graduation event on the digital platform RTUconnect.net (see the section «Events» - RTU Grand Graduation 2022). Since the graduation ceremony is a part of RTU 160th anniversary event, then graduates and two (2) of their guests do not have to buy tickets separately. But others have to purchase tickets to the RTU 160th anniversary event – festival «Science Holidays - RTU 160» (more information and tickets are available here).

The event will also be broadcast live and on national television. Please keep up to date with the event on Facebook page and on the alumni digital platform RTUconnect.net.

As every year, we would not be able to do this without our volunteer team. To make sure the grand event goes as planned, we are looking for volunteers to help make it happen. Volunteers are invited to apply by June 8.
