Book reservation
With PRIMO you can find the book you are looking for and reserve it so that you can pick it up immediately from the librarian when you come to the library. Sign in with ORTUS password. Reserved items are kept for 3 days.
Textbooks
The Lending department of textbooks offers books for the whole semester. Textbooks are also available in the reading rooms of the Central Library.

Interlibrary loan and document delivery

The Interlibrary Loan (ILL) service allows you to order books, articles, etc. which are not in RTU Scientific library stock and can be obtained from other libraries.

You will need to provide the following information: 

  • For books: author, title, year of publication, ISBN.
  • For articles: author and title of the article, journal title, publication year, volumer, pages, DOI. 

ILL is available for students and staff of RTU. Orders from foreign libraries are a paid service.

Self-service options
  • Self-service machines are available on the Central Library’s 1st floor (only check-in), 2nd and 4th floor and in the Lending Department of Textbooks, where you can check-out the books and return them to the library. You need a valid student ID card to check-out the books. If you are unsure, ask a librarian!
  • Book return outside Library opening hours. When library is closed, books may be left in the orange drop box outside the library (entrance from courtyard of the Faculty of Materials Science and Applied Chemistry).
  • The Central Library and Chemistry branch library have free access bookshelves. 
  • Library users kitchen. Users are welcome to have their meals in a comfortable self-service kitchen with a sink, tables and dishes. Please keep the area clean and wash the dishes. Kitchen is located on the first floor. The room is under video surveillance.
  • 24h Reading room. The 24h reading room allows you to study at any time of the day, including Saturdays and Sundays. The reading room has study places and a selection of textbooks, Wi-Fi, a book check-in machine and access to a self-service kitchen. You can check-out books during library opening hours, and drop them off at the self-service machine when you leave the 24h reading room. To use the reading room outside the library opening hours, you need to register at the ORTUS. 24h reading room is closed on public holidays and student holidays.

We offer individual consultations, excursions and group training for students, academic staff. Topics:

Suggest additions to Library collection
In order to purposefully develop the collection of the Library according to the RTU study directions and the needs of the university's research work, RTU teaching staff can order books and e-resources for library's collection.
When ordering, please fill in Request form. 
The request shall be approved by the signature of the Dean of the Faculty. The completed form can be submitted to the Collection Development Department, Paula Valdena street 5-105, room 111, or by .
Library offers the possibility for every library user to suggest titles and e-resources for purchase. To suggest titles or e-resources for the library to purchase, please fill in Request form.

Internet access
Wireless internet is available throughout the library. Choose RTU-WiFi or Eduroam and login with ORTUS username & password.
Desktop computers are located on the third floor of the Central Library. 
Binding services
RTU Scientific Library Binding Services provides professional binding of theses, dissertations, and other materials. It’s a paid service.

Group and individual study rooms
The rooms are located on the second to fifth floors of the Central Library. At this moment there are no reservation possibilities for these rooms. If the room is free, please use it.
