The Law on Institutions of Higher Education of the Republic of Latvia stipulates that higher education institutions (HEIs) are autonomous educational and research institutions with the right for self-government. This autonomy is characterized by allocation of rights and duties between state institutions and HEI administration, as well as between administration and academic personnel.
Studies at RTU are implemented by nine faculties, including 33 institutes.
RTU has established a comprehensive network of branches outside the capital city Riga in order to promote intellectual development in the regions of Latvia and to educate and train qualified workforce close to their place of residence in different parts of the country.
At RTU, there are 11 departments dealing with administrative, communication, international cooperation, maintenance, as well as study and business activities.
