RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year

In order to promote RTU scientific activities, encourage involvement of young scientists in research and assess results of RTU scientists, in 2015 the first contest for the honorary title of «RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year» was announced. Filling in the application form, it is necessary to specify the applicant’s achievements in scientific activities for the current and the previous calendar year, such as: organizational work in research, scientific activities and institutions, international scientific publications, funding attracted to RTU, number of supervised PhD students, number of elaborated and defended Doctoral Theses under the supervision of the applicant, participation in research projects, received patents and licenses or other creative achievements.

RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year 2018

In 2018, the honorary title «RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year» was awarded to Arita Dubņika, Researcher at the Institute of General Chemical Engineering of RTU Faculty of Materials Science and Applied Chemistry. Young scientist’s research is related to the development of implant materials for the treatment of bone defects. In the materials developed by A. Dubņika, medicines are included that work locally – exactly in the damaged area.

In the 2017/2018 academic year, a young scientist wrote three Scopus-indexed publications. Under her guidance, four Bachelor Paper have been defended.

In the 2017/2018 academic year, A. Dubņika participated in the development and coordination of several scientific projects, attracting almost 300 000 EUR to RTU.

A. Dubņika is an expert of the Latvian Council of Science in the sub-branch of the Expert Committee in Engineering and Computer Science «Biomaterials, Ceramic Materials, Polymers and Composites».

In 2016, Arita Dubņika received the Julia Polak European Doctoral Award for outstanding and international scientific research in the biomaterial industry, presented by the European Society of Biomaterials.

A. Dubņika was awarded the honorary title «RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year» on 12 October 2018 , during the plenary session of the 59th International Scientific Conference of RTU.

RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year 2017

The honorary title of «RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year 2017» has been awarded to Linda Mežule, Associate Professor of the Department of Water Engineering and Technology, Faculty of Civil Engineering.

Research of the young scientist is related to the treatment of drinking water and the production of biofuel from agricultural waste.

In the academic year 2016/2017 L.Mežule has published eleven papers indexed in Scopus database and received two patents. She is an editor of international scientific journals «Chemical Engineering Transactions», «Agronomy Research» and «Key Engineering Materials».

L.Mežule is the leading researcher in five international scientific projects, as well as coordinator of two large-scale international scientific projects. Under her leadership, over 220,000 EUR have been attracted to RTU through research projects and contracts with companies.

In the academic year 2016/2017 researcher has participated with reports in seven international scientific conferences in Spain, Italy, Estonia and Latvia.

L.Mežule is an expert of the Latvian Council of Science in such areas as construction science and environmental science. She is a scientific adviser of Master and Doctoral Theses that are elaborated at RTU.

L.Mežule received the award «RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year 2017» on October 14, 2017 during the plenary session of the 58th International Scientific Conference of RTU.

RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year 2016

The honorary title of «RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year 2016» has been awarded to Kristine Salma-Ancane, Leading Researcher of the Institute of General Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Materials Science and Applied Chemistry.

In 2015 and 2016, the young scientist was a co-author of ten publications indexed in SCOPUS  and Web of Science databases. During this period, under the guidance of K. Salma-Ancane two Doctoral Theses have been elaborated, five Bachelor Theses and one Master Thesis have been elaborated and defended.

Kristine Salma-Ancane is the expert of the Latvian Council of Science in Materials Sciences and General Chemical Technology. She is a board member of the Latvian Materials Research Society and a Chair of Biomaterials Section. K. Salma-Ancane is a representative of Latvia to the Council of European Ceramic Society, member of the European Ceramic Society and member of the Association of Latvian Young Scientists. 

The young scientist has given a significant contribution to popularization of science and pupils’ scientific research paper elaboration.

In 2016, Kristine Salma-Ancane has been granted the L’Oreal Latvian Scholarship «For Women in Science».

The Award «RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year 2016» was awarded to Kristine Salma-Ancane during the plenary session of RTU 57th International Scientific Conference on 14 October 2016.

RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year 2015

In 2015, an honorary title of RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year was awarded to the Director of RTU Rudolfs Cimdins Riga Biomaterials Innovations and Development Centre, leading researcher of the Institute of General Chemical Technology of RTU Faculty of Materials Science and Applied Chemistry, assistant professor Dagnija Loča.

In 2014-2015, Dagnija Loča published eight research papers indexed in SCOPUS and Web of Science databases and one monograph. She took part in six scientific conferences in Poland, Latvia, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.   

In 2014-2015, she led six research projects and was the leading performer within five research projects. She supervised two Bachelor and one Doctoral Thesis. In this period of time RTU attracted 361,750 EUR under the lead of Dagnija Loča.

Dagnija Loča is an expert of the Latvian Scientific Council in Pharmacology, General Chemical Technology, Materials Science, expert of RTU Promotional Council P-18, member of the Scientific Council of SJSC Latvijas Jūras administrācija, Chair of the Board of the Latvian Materials Research Society, as well as a member of the Association of Latvian Young Scientists.
