Riga Technical University (RTU) is positioned 751st–760th in the QS World University Rankings 2024 and this indicator is the highest of the three Latvian universities included in the ranking.

The highest assessments received by RTU in the ranking are International Student Ratio and Employer Reputation.

QS World University Rankings 2024 assess universities according to nine criteria: Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Citations per Faculty, Faculty Student Ratio, as well as International Student Ratio and International Faculty Ratio. This year three new metrics were introduced: Employment Outcomes, International Research Network and Sustainability.

RTU received the best results, being ranked the 248th, with its International Student Ratio. Internationalisation is one of the most significant priorities of RTU operation and, as a result of its purposeful activities, the number of foreign students has increased in recent years –students from more than 80 countries study at the university.

RTU continues improving its performance also in the employer reputation criterion, having stepped 78 positions higher compared to the previous year. This criterion, jointly with the employment outcomes, confirms the compliance of RTU study programmes with the labour market requirements in the opinion of both local and foreign employers.

The employer reputation is a significant criterion for RTU, as the Latvian labour market lacks specialists in engineering sciences and high technologies, which are mostly trained at RTU in Latvia. The university has also set the proactive link with the national economy needs as its strategic goal; therefore, the RTU basis is research, innovations and study process formed in cooperation with industry that ensures training of specialists required for Latvian national economy, thus serving as a basis for Latvia’s sustainable development.

According to QS World University Rankings, RTU has already been the leading university in Latvia for a number of years. From Latvia, also University of Latvia is included into the ranking, being ranked 801st–850th, and Riga Stradins University, being ranked 901st–950th.

The top of the ranking looks as follows: Massachusetts Institute of Technologies is ranked the first, Cambridge University the second and Oxford University the third.

In total, this year, 1500 universities from 104 countries have been evaluated in the rankings.
