From 21 to 25 April, RTU Rector Tālis Juhna and Vice-Rector for Innovations Liene Briede visited Japan to meet with representatives of Kobe University, Tokyo Institute of Technology (Tokyo Tech), Shizuoka University and several technology transfer centres and incubators to discuss cooperation opportunities. RTU is interested in hosting PhD students from Japanese universities to increase the number of international PhD students, as well as to offer RTU PhD students exchange and research visits to Japan.

Establishing closer contacts with Japanese entrepreneurs and investors would be a good potential for raising the profile of Latvian start-ups and expanding their activities.

During this visit, T.Juhna gave a speech at the Europe House in Japan and took part in the European Union's 20th Anniversary Enlargement Seminar. Furthermore, he seized the opportunity to meet with the Latvian Ambassador to Japan, fostering diplomatic ties and enhancing cooperation between the two countries.

Throughout their visit, Tālis Juhna and Liene Briede laid the groundwork for future collaborations, making opportunity for enhanced academic exchange and research endeavors between Latvia and Japan.
