Summary:

In Latvia, the mental health of the population has been one of the highlights of public health in recent years. Its importance has grown particularly amid the COVID-19 pandemic, when society has faced a variety of challenges that directly and indirectly affected mental health, such as anxiety over the unknown, restrictions on socialising, declining access to healthcare, deteriorating socioeconomic conditions, and vaccination-related puzzle. (Surina, Martinsone et al. 2022), (SPKC, 2022)

To ensure the availability of high-quality medical treatment services, it is in the interest of public health to be able to perform a correct assessment of an individual's mental state using validated instruments. Within the framework of this project, a new computer-aided tool to measure and monitor adolescents' aged 14-17 psychiatric health outcomes will be developed in cooperation between scientists from two universities (Riga Stradins University [RSU] and Riga Technical University [RTU]) and practising children's mental health specialists.

The introduction of the method into the health system will improve the quality and availability of mental health services for adolescents, especially by focussing on the identification of suicide risk factors in the context of the post-COVID pandemic.

Activities:
Scientific objectives of the project:
Stage 1: To develop the content for the CAAT and semi-structured interview for adolescents aged 14- 17 to assess emotional, behavioural, and functioning problems.
Stage 2: To develop the technical part of a CAAT device itself, including the integration of pressure sensors into the device and their calibration, and the programming of the algorithm for the developed test.
Stage 3: CAAT approbation and semi-structured interview for adolescents aged 14-17 years in a clinical group (n=150) and a non-clinical group (n=300). Substantiation of CAAT: internal consistency, reliability assessment, criterion validity in both clinical (n=150) and non-clinical groups (n=300), factorial validity, convergent validity.
Stage 4: Standardisation of CAAT for adolescents aged 14-17 (n=1200) and evaluation of complicated COVID as an additional risk factor for psychic illness and suicidal behaviour.
