EIT Food is the Knowledge and Innovation Community of the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT), joined by Riga Technical University in 2019, obtaining the right to organise an innovation and cooperation contact point or HUB in Latvia.
Building close links between consumers, businesses, startups, researchers and students from all over Europe, EIT Food supports innovation and sustainable economic initiatives that boost access to quality food, improve the environment and health, create new jobs and increase competitiveness of Europe. EIT Food promotes innovation in the food industry, from agriculture and production to supply and customer service, by offering business support programmes and educational and mobility programmes to professionals, by launching research and innovation projects.
Activities focus on supporting the commercialisation of new ideas, providing training, mentoring, coaching, early incubation, acceleration and assistance in prototyping. In strengthening cooperation between industry, startups and scientists, networking is also essential.
EIT Food programmes in Latvia are implemented by EIT Food Hub Latvia in cooperation with Riga Stradins University, Latvia University of Agriculture, the Food and Veterinary Service and BIOR – the scientific institute for food safety, animal health and environment.
