Vertically Integrated Project (VIP) is a program where students work in interdisciplinary teams on a long term research project in the following topics – Wastewater Treatment, Bioenergy, Robotics, Power Electronics, Sensor Networks, Space, Digital Twin & Indoor Air Smart Tracker (in collaboration with Riga Stradins University), and Advanced Concrete. Teams are interdisciplinary – students from all faculties are involved – and vertically integrated – each semester students represent different levels of studies, ranging from Bachelor studies to Doctoral studies. Students can apply for a VIP scholarship.

Join one of the nine interdisciplinary teams to work on the following topics – Wastewater Treatment, Bioenergy, Robotics, Power Electronics, Sensor Networks, Space, Digital Twin, Advanced Concrete, and Indoor Air Smart Tracker (in collaboration with Rīgas Stradiņa universitāte (Riga Stradins University). Up to 228 EUR scholarship and support fund for solution development is available for Fall Semester.

Application to VIP is open two times a year – in December/January and August. Duration of one VIP season is five months. The working language in the program is English.

WHO CAN APPLY? Teams are interdisciplinary – students from all faculties are involved – and vertically integrated – each semester students represent different levels of studies, ranging from RTU’s Engineering High School to Doctoral studies. All Bachelor students may participate in the project for up to three years, but all Master and doctoral students may participate throughout their studies. The relevant skills are listed in the description of each team.

WHAT WILL I GAIN? By participating in VIP activity, students can receive a monthly scholarship (up to 228 euros). To apply for the scholarship, the student has to be without any academic debts. During the activity students gain experience in working in groups, acquire new knowledge within the framework of their chosen project, acquire basic presentation skills, as well as gain new valuable contacts.

EXPECTED INVOLVEMENT The time of student involvement and workload is unlimited, however, the minimum is 5 hours a week. Lectures and group work take place every Wednesday from 16.30 to 19.00 in RTU Science and Innovation Centre, Ķīpsalas 6A (RTU Faculty of Civil Ingeneering), Room 268 - "the Moon". Each semester the student receives a schedule of planned lectures and group work. Attendance of all VIP activities is mandatory, and students' involvement is important to achieve the goals of the group.
