RTU rector Leonīds Ribickis and professor Jānis Krastiņš received 2016 award of the Cabinet of Ministers

RTU Rector Leonīds Ribickis received CM Award for significant contribution to improvement of the quality of engineering education, in turn, Professor Jānis Krastiņš – for achievements in research in the field of architecture and urban planning and publication of seminal monographs.

On 16 November, RTU Rector Academician Leonīds Ribickis and Professor of RTU Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning Jānis Krastiņš received 2016 Award of the Cabinet of Ministers (CM) in Liepāja Concert Hall «Large Amber».

L. Ribickis received this honorary state award for significant contribution to improvement of the quality of engineering education, in turn, Professor Jānis Krastiņš – for achievements in research in the field of architecture and urban planning and publication of seminal monographs.

Opening the solemn ceremony, the Prime Minster stressed that CM Award is granted to people whose contribution cannot be measured by ratings or expert evaluations.  M. Kučinskis stated, «They are beyond traditional criteria. They set criteria to both themselves and others. Why? Because they are free and creative, they can surprise people without even being aware that people are surprised. They can be envied, imitated, but they will always stay true to themselves.»

CM Award was also granted to the Director of the Latvian National Museum of Art Māra Lāce, composer Pēteris Vasks, of Local and Regional Governments Andris Jaunsleinis.

CM Award Laureates were greeted by the Minister of Defense Raimonds Bergmanis, Minister of Economics Arvils Ašeradens, Minister of Finance Dana Reizniece-Ozola, Minister of Education and Science Kārlis Šadurskis, Minister of Welfare Jānis Reirs, Minister of Justice Dzintars Rasnačs, Minister of Health Anda Čakša and Minister of Agriculture Jānis Dūklavs.

The guests enjoyed musical performance by Liepāja Symphonic Orchestra, Big Band of the Melngaiļa Music School, as well as young and talented artists – soprano Marlēna Keine, percussionist Guntars Freibergs and cellist Kristers Mārtiņš Šīmanis.

At the ceremony, CM Award Laureates received CM Diploma of Honor, CM Award Badge and money prize of 7,115 EUR.
