Internationalization

Internationalization is one of the top priorities of Riga Technical University (RTU), which is also highlighted in the RTU Strategy and RTU Development Program for 2014 – 2020. Development of the international environment covers both studies and research; it is an essential aspect of the general university strategy. Our aim is to ensure RTU competiveness at the global scale in the field of studies, research and innovation.

To make sure internationalization is successful it is necessary to motivate academic personnel and students of RTU and promote their purposeful daily work. International achievements of RTU in studies and research are the best affirmation of their quality.

Export of higher education in Latvia has become a noteworthy sector of the Latvian economy, and RTU plays the leading role in this sphere in Latvia.

Cooperating with universities all around the world and educating and training undergraduate, post-graduate and Doctoral students from more than 70 countries, RTU has developed the most comprehensive international university environment in Latvia.

International activities of RTU mainly include:
  • establishment of cooperation and launch of joint projects with universities from other countries and international organizations;
  • promotion of the image of the internationally acknowledged university;
  • student and academic staff mobility;
  • attraction of foreign students and their integration at RTU;
  • development of international study programs;
  • organization of guest lectures.
International cooperation at RTU is coordinated by the following departments:
  • International Relations Department, which aims to promote internationalization at RTU, to attract strategic foreign partners and consequently ensure sustainability of cooperation, to organize mobility of students, academic personnel and administration to promote RTU competitiveness within the framework of ERASMUS+ and other projects;
  •  Foreign Students Department, which works on attracting foreign students and solves any issues associated with their studies and stay in Latvia. It aims to integrate foreign students into the RTU study process and other RTU student activities; in cooperation with RTU faculties, it also ensures high quality study process, participates in development of joint and double degree programs and implementation of ERASMUS+ and other cooperation projects with non-EU countries.

International Students

One of the most important aims of Foreign Students Department (RTU FSD) and International Relations Department (IRD), which is mentioned in the RTU Strategy for years 2014–2020, is to increase the number of foreign students up to 10% of the total number of students.

Mobility (including Erasmus+)

Students and staff of RTU and partnering universities are provided an opportunity to participate in foreign study, lecturing or experience exchange by the European Commission higher education exchange programs and mobility as part of bilateral contracts realised by RTU.

International institutional collaboration is one of the main core elements of the RTU development strategy.

Center for International Collaboration

Rapidly developing technologies and constantly growing volume of information allow us to learn about events in the world, to travel the globe virtually and to get experience of new cultures online. However, none of the new technologies can be a real substitute for a face-to-face conversation and true emotions we experience communicating with the representatives of different cultures.  

International Events

TestDaf

The TestDaF exam is an evaluation of knowledge of German language for studies in German. This exam is centralized, developed in Germany and can be taken in TestDaF testing centers worldwide.
