RTU receives annual award of the Employers’ Confederation of Latvia

Riga Technical University (RTU) was recognized the best employer in Latvia. On 16 November, the award of the Employers’ Confederation of Latvia (LDDK) was presented to the Chair of RTU Senate Professor Elīna Gaile-Sarkane at a solemn ceremony held at the House of Blackheads. The best employers of Latvia were nominated by the jury selected by the LDDK. 

RTU received the award in the category «The Best Employer in Latvia» for its ability to both appreciate its employees and to make contribution to the development of highly qualified workforce meeting labor market needs.  The award annotation of LDDK jury maintains, «To reach this aim, Riga Technical University established Engineering High School, actively participated in the development of industry norms and regulations, took part in the Researchers Night.»

This year for the third time LDDK awarded the National Entrepreneur Prize, which was presented to John Martin Tully, Chairman of the Board, and Arnis Riekstiņš, member of the Board of Mikrotīkls Ltd.

LDDK Annual Award was granted in six categories. Annual awards to the best employers were granted to the following employers in the regions of Latvia: Ariols Ltd. in Latgale Region, Tenapors Ltd. in Zemgale Region, JSC Cēsu alus in Vidzeme Region, Ventspils nafta termināls Ltd. in Kurzeme Region, X Infotech Ltd. in Riga Region and Tele2 Shared Service Center Ltd. in Riga.

For the first time the award was granted to an enterprise that was recognized the best internship provider based both on the results of the survey run among young people and jury assessment. JSC Latvenergo won in the nomination «The Best Internship Provider», the enterprise established good traditions in cooperation with its interns. Young people have the opportunity to advance their qualification, get acquainted with the working environment; many youngsters get their first wages at the enterprise. Many interns continue their career at JSC Latvenergo.

The aim of the LDDK Annual Award is to highlight the role and contribution of employers to the regional development and to stimulate entrepreneurship in the public sector all around Latvia and exchange of good practice on the industry and regional level.
This year more than 320 enterprises, institutions and managers took part in the competition for LDDK Annual Award. In the first round the candidates were evaluated by the State Revenue Service, State Labor Inspectorate, Free Trade Union Confederation of Latvia, as well as Lursoft. 22 best candidates reached the finals stage of the competition. The jury, which united the representatives of state and municipal institutions as well as national social and cooperation partners, evaluated conformity of the candidates to the top awards.
