RTU recently welcomed visitors from the Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP, Malaysia) to strengthen the relationship between the two institutions and discuss potential areas of cooperation—for example, in the field of semiconductor research and development.

Our distinguished guests were: Malaysian Prince and UniMAP Chancellor Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Ibni Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Student Affairs And Alumni) Dr. Zaliman Sauli, along with 18 students.

The Malaysian delegation met with RTU Rector Tālis Juhna, Innovation Vice-Rector Liene Briede, and Igors Tipāns, Vice-Rector for International Academic Cooperation and Studies. The group discussed opportunities for cooperation, current global research and development needs, and ways to create new depths of innovation expertise. Letters of intent and tokens of appreciation were also exchanged.

In addition, the Malaysian delegation visited RTU’s Kipsala campus, where they gained first-hand knowledge of the Science and Innovation Center’s work with students, scientists, and industry in developing innovative products and services, and had the opportunity to experiment with the KUKA robotic simulator within a large range of motion.

RTU boasts manifold strengths in semiconductor research, and it is evident that cooperation will have many benefits for all partners, and beyond. Given the scale and diversity of the semiconductor industry, it is critical that universities develop synergistic relationships such as this. Without such collaborations, researchers would not be exposed to the breadth, reach, and scope of the semiconductor ecosystem.

The visit to RTU is a part of a series of educational trips for UniMAP, who are travelling to various universities in the Baltic countries.
