Riga Technical University has gathered long experience in organizing Summer Schools for the students of Architecture and related fields. The first Summer School was held in 2003, and since that every year Riga Technical University has welcomed active and creative students from the country and abroad for brainstorming and creating ideas as well as for building items and modelling public activities with the aim to increase public interest in diverse usage of spaces and gathering experiences how to achieve this. Thematic challenges of the Summer Schools have moved from direct focus on problematic issues in Riga Historic Centre as the UNESCO World Heritage Site to more diverse urban studies in neighbourhoods of Riga and other towns all over Latvia. Participants of the Summer Schools have worked in divided town of Valka-Valga on the Latvian-Estonian border, former military base and campus in Liepāja on the Baltic coast and since 2012 has found the location in medieval town of Cēsis in Midland Latvia. Since that year important support in the organization of the Summer Schools was given by FOLD, interactive platform where among the founders and active participants are the alumni of the Faculty of Architecture and Urban Planning.
