Scientific research at the university is an important part of the study process and is carried out within every study program. The strategic goal of RTU research is to analyse and provide solutions to pressing technical and social problems.

A comprehensive list of labs and workshops is still being compiled, but here are some of them.
In cooperation with “Latvenergo” AS, the Faculty of Electrical and Environmental Engineering has set up a creative workshop for students, with an aim to develop their practical skills in electronics and electrical engineering, whilst promoting interest in these areas. In their free time at the workshop students are able to consult teaching staff and develop electronic and electrotechnical circuit layouts, printed circuit board design, circuit soldering and testing, as well as microcontroller programming.
The “Latvenergo” AS creative lab has 12 workstations, equipped with various mechanical processing tools, testing and measuring instruments. It is constantly being improved and supplied with new equipment.

The RTU Robotics Club unites people with an interest in robot construction. The goal of the club is to promote interest in robots and related industries such as electronics, mechanics and programming. The club also aims to develop the robotics movement in Latvia, train new robot builders and build world-class robots.
Interested students are provided with the opportunity to learn the basics of robotics by preparing simple competition robots under the guidance of experienced builders, starting their own projects, and getting involved in other Robotics Club events. These include field trips and seminars, thus introducing students to the robotics movement, while also helping them develop pedagogical skills.
The Robotics Club educates and trains anyone with interest and enthusiasm, no prior knowledge needed. However, it is important to understand that a robot cannot be built in a day. This is a long, complex process requiring patience and determination, perseverance and dedication. Since this club is completely voluntary, it is essential for participants to be able to work independently, using others as sources of inspiration and knowledge. At the end of the day, when enthusiasm and patience will be rewarded with the success of a task, the feeling will be worth it.
The RTU Design Factory is a platform for business and innovation with the best-equipped prototyping workshop in the Baltic States. This is a team of highly qualified experts and scientific support for entrepreneurs, managers and students to create innovative ideas, high value-added products and engineering solutions.

The RTU Design Factory organises various training and study courses, including the "New Product Design and Development" where students get to work on new products in cooperation with Latvian companies, as well as "VIP" (Vertically Integrated Project), during which interdisciplinary student teams led by researchers develop challenging long-term research projects.
The RTU Design Factory houses “theLAB” - an open workshop where RTU students, employees and scientists are able to test their inventions by 3D printing, laser cutting and engraving, plotting, large format printing and other available methods.
The IdeaLAB business pre-incubator gives participants an opportunity to develop and test their early-stage business ideas before putting them to practice.
The RTU IdeaLAB business idea pre-incubator unites young, talented entrepreneurs, mentors, creative enthusiasts, teachers and investors, providing them with an environment perfect for creating new ideas and products or developing already existing ones.
The RTU IdeaLAB promotes learning by doing, encourages reaching new heights, as well as providing support for the development and realisation of the ideal business idea.
