Visitors to the RTU Stand at «Skola 2024» Will be Able to See the Future Prospects of STEM Studies

Experiments and creative workshops, information about study opportunities at Riga Technical University (RTU), a discussion on women's career paths in STEM fields, as well as excursions to RTU faculties and laboratories at the Ķīpsala campus - such a wide range of activities awaits visitors of the annual «Skola 2024» exhibition. The event will take place from 23 to 25 February at Ķīpsala International Exhibition Centre, 8 Ķīpsala Street.

Visiting the RTU stand at this year's fair will also provide an opportunity to learn about study opportunities at RTU, as there will be an opportunity to meet and talk to students from RTU faculties and other departments. Representatives of the Faculty of Civil and Mechanical Engineering, the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technologies, the Faculty of Computer Science, Information Technology and Energy and the Faculty of Engineering Economics and Management, as well as the Institute of Architecture and Design, RTU Latvian Maritime Academy and Maritime School, Olaine College of Technology, Engineering High School and the newly established RTU International School of Science and Technology will talk about their studies. Representatives of RTU Riga Business School and RTU Liepaja Maritime College will also be present at separate stands.

You can also take part in various activities and see prototypes of different products made by engineering students and scientists. RTU students will demonstrate various chemistry and physics experiments, showing how interesting and exciting studies in the sciences and natural sciences can be, as well as the opportunity to play the role of a customs officer and look for contraband goods, learn about aspects of environmental sustainability and the role of engineering in this field, as well as test their knowledge of various construction materials, see surveying equipment and participate in erudition competitions.

Friday 23 February

  • At 12.50 p.m., interested persons are invited to gather at the RTU stand for a tour of RTU faculties and laboratories at the Ķīpsala campus.
  • At 14.30-15.00, RTU Talent Programme Coordinator Aigars Asmis will present the benefits of participation in the programme on the «Saies» stage. 
  • From 12.00-14.00, those who are thinking about studying architecture or design and are preparing to take the drawing entrance exam will be able to try their hand at the drawing mini-exam.
  • At 14.00-18.00, representatives of the RTU «Latvenergo» Creative Laboratory will demonstrate their work in electronics and energy engineering.

Saturday, 24 February

  • 10.00-14.00 Students of RTU study programme «Industrial Design» will demonstrate their prototypes, and in the afternoon there will be an opportunity to build your own paper bridges and test their durability. 
  • At 12.30-13.00, the open stage of the exhibition will host a discussion «Women in STEM», organised by RTU, with the participation of Linda Mežule, senior researcher at the RTU Institute of Water Systems and Biotechnologies, Anda Barkāne, RTU Doctoral Process Manager, and Elīna Miķelsone, Head of the RTU Science and Innovation Centre Design Factory.

Sunday 25 February

  • RTU stand will offer an opportunity to play chess and other games, as well as to test your sense of balance using the exhibits of RTU Curiosity Centre «Futurimo Rīga».
  • At 13.00-13.30 representatives of the RTU Student Parliament will discuss student life at RTU.
