In April 2021, RTU established the first 3D concrete printing scientific laboratory in the Baltics in cooperation with the dry mix manufacturer SIA SAKRET. Its goals are to become the basis for the further development of 3D concrete printing in the Baltic region, to attract students from various faculties to carry out scientific work, to cooperate with the industry, as well as to involve it in scientific research in order to develop 3D printing in the region. The laboratory has a self-made portal printer and a batch-type and M-tec Duo mix mixer/pump for large-volume printing. In order to achieve the above-mentioned goals, the laboratory organized the first 3D concrete competition in the Baltics, in which students created free-form objects that could be placed in the future campus of the University of Latvia.
