Short Bio:  

Architect, Professor at Riga Technical University, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture (since 2007). Education: Degree of Architect (1984), Master of Architecture (1994), Doctor of Architecture (2006). Practice since 1984 – Design Bureau Komunālprojekts JSC. and Sestais Stils Ltd. Author and co-author of many public and dwelling buildings in Riga and other towns of Latvia. Major projects: Renovation of Riga Town Hall Square (Riga City Council Building and Extension, Museum and Chamber Music Hall building The House of the Black Heads, Office buildings), Interiors of the Faculty of Social Sciences of Latvia University, single-family houses, etc. Teacher at Riga Technical University: Lecturer (1992–2003), Assistant Professor (2003–2006), Associate Professor (2006–2012), Professor (since 2012). Study courses: Architectural and Urban Design, Interior Design, Building Types, Architectural Morphology and Research Methods. Visiting Professor at Jon Minku University of Architecture and Urbanism (Bucharest, Romania, 2014 and 2015), University of Sassari (Italy, 2014 and 2015), HafenCity University (Hamburg, Germany, 2017 and 2018) and Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (Lithuania, 2017 and 2018). Vice-Rector of Nordic-Baltic Academy of Architecture (since 2013). Member of Editorial Boards: Scientific Proceedings of RTU: Architecture and Urban Planning (Riga, Latvia), Journal of Architecture and Urbanism (Vilnius, Lithuania), Landscape Architecture and Art (Jelgava, Latvia) Journal of Sustainable Architecture and Civil Engineering (Kaunas, Lithuania) and Latvijas Arhitektūra (Riga, Latvia). Scientific Consultant: Ilustrētā Zinātne (Riga, Latvia) and Ilustrētā Pasaules Vēsture (Riga, Latvia). Expert at Latvia Council of Science, Slovenian Research Agency (Ljubljana, Slovenia), Fondazione Romualdo Del Bianco (Florence, Italy) and State Foundation of Culture Capital (Riga, Latvia). Research interests: identity and up-to-date design and usage of public open space in urban areas. Author of more than 80 publications. Member of The Latvia Association of Architects and Academy of Latvia Regional Architecture.
