EUNIC Latvia and the RTU allies to bring European experts to the Forum Wood Building Baltic 2022 with a program of activities on construction and sustainability

Baptised «Green Deal and Architecture», the project is leaded by EUNIC Latvia in close partnership with the Riga Technical University. This project is the recipient of a EUNIC Cluster Fund grant with special funding in the framework of the French Presidency of the Council of the European Union. EUNIC — European Union National Institutes for Culture — is Europe’s network of national cultural institutes and organisations from all EU member states and associated countries.

The «Green Deal and Architecture» project, organized from May 9 to 12 in Riga, brings European expertise to the 2022 regional event Forum Wood Building Baltic. It aims at cooperating with local partners on sustainability in the building industry, strengthening networks between EU construction & architecture stakeholders, and promoting mutual learning, capacity-building and dialogue among future professionals. The event is implemented by EUNIC Latvia members Austrian Embassy Riga, British Council in Latvia in collaboration with the British Embassy, Danish Cultural Institute in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, Embajada de España en Letonia, Goethe-Institut Riga, Institut français de Lettonie in collaboration with the French Embassy, Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA), Nordic Council of Ministers’ Office in Latvia.

Together with the RTU, EUNIC Latvia members bring to Riga experts that will take part in different activities: networking event, business meetings, lectures, study trip to Latvian wood architecture and production sites, and pitching sessions with graduating architecture students. Lectures will be held in english at Ķīpsala RTU auditorium «Domus Auditorialis» (Zunda krastmala 8) on Tuesday, May 10, starting at 9.00, accessible both on site for passholders and online on the EUNIC Latvia Facebook page:

  • «Innovative wood-architecture in Higher Education» by Dr. Wolfgang FIEL, Senior Lecturer at the University of Applied Arts Vienna and Senior Research Fellow for projects in the area of renewable materials at the University of Vienna, Institute of Chemistry and Research (Austria).
  • «Sustainable urbanization using more wood» by Niels MORSING, Director of Wood and Biomaterials at Danish Technological Institute (Denmark).
  • «Towards Carbon neutrality – Goals and expertise of Bouygues Construction» by Pierre-Alexandre HÉRARD, Timber Construction Partnership and Procurement Manager for Bouygues Construction (France).
  • «Forest-Climate-Wood in Buildings – Current German Situation» by Prof. Dr. Andreas KRAUSE, Head of Thünen-Institute for Wood Research (Germany).
  • «Meeting future needs today - promoting wood building and low-carbon construction in Finland» by Simon LE ROUX, Project Specialist, Ministry of the Environment in Finland, Department of the Built Environment (Finland).
  • «Wood building and sustainability in Tampere» by Kaisu KAMMONEN, Housing Specialist, City of Tampere (Finland).
  • «Ecosystemic Structures: García Márquez Library in Barcelona» by Elena ORTE, co-founding partner of the Architect Studio SUMA Arquitectura (Spain).
  • «Zaha Hadid Architects Timber and material research» by Ludovico LOMBARDI, Associate Director, Zaha Hadid Architects (UK).

The EUNIC Latvia invitees will be available for business meetings on Tuesday, May 10 afternoon, by appointment.
