111 scientific papers presented in the framework of the International Conference of Environmental and Climate Technologies (CONECT) organised by Riga Technical University (RTU) will be published in special issues of two scientific journals – «Enviromental and Climate Technologies» and «Enviromental Managment». Both journals are indexed in international databases of scientific papers.

The conference focused on such topics as renewable energy, in particular, use of solar and wind energy, power sector demand flexibility – the necessity to increasingly think of the time period when to consume it and how to model the consumption. During the conference, two evenings were dedicated to poster sessions, where 60 conference participants presented their research.

The work of CONECT took place in two plenary sessions, where keynote speeches were delivered by Peter D. Lund from Aalto University in Finland, Klaus Skytte from the Technical University of Denmark, Dagnija Blumberga from RTU, Bin Chen from Beijing Normal University in China, Emanuele Vannucci from the University of Pisa in Italy, as well as Denis Baranenko from ITMO University in Russia.

«We are like a bridge between the former Socialist Bloc and the Western countries, and this conference is a great opportunity for the best researchers in the field of power engineering and climate technologies from around the world to meet in person in order to launch joint and important research projects,» says Professor Dagnija Blumberga, Head of the Institute of Energy Systems and Environment (IESE) at RTU Faculty of Power and Electrical Engineering.

To assess the work of the conference, the participants were invited to express their opinion on the organisational questions and the matters covered. Results of the voting will allow the conference organisers to define the conference topics more precisely for the next year.

The CONECT conference took place from 15 to 17 May, and was organised by the IESE. The conference is being held since 2008. The next CONECT conference will take place from 12 to 15 May 2020.
