RTU Rector visits Brazil and United States

On July 9–12 Rector of Riga Technical University, prof. Leonids Ribickis, paid a working visit to Brazil, together with official delegation of Prime Minister of Latvia Valdis Dombrovskis.

During this visit Rector visited  one of the biggest universities in Brazil – Unicamp  (Universidade Estadual de Campinas), where he met the President of Unicamp  Fernando Frerreira Costa and discussed the possible cooperation.

As a result of this meeting, a new agreement for  academic cooperation in the areas of research, teaching and the exchange of academic staff, undergraduate and graduate students is being prepared between both universities.

On July 13-22 Rector of Riga Technical University, prof. Leonids Ribickis, was on working visit in United States of America, together with official delegation of Prime Minister of Latvia Valdis Dombrovskis.

During this visit Rector visited Silicon Valley and participated in Business Seminar, held at Stanford university, where he was one of the panelists and spoke about the role of universities in fostering enterpreunership and discussed how universities can work together with industry and government.

Rector also met representatives of Google, Cisco Systems, Juniper Networks and IBM, and introduced the companies with research capacities of Riga Technical University and discussed the possibilities of considering Latvia as an advantageous location for its research and development centres.ribickis_stanford.jpg

In Austin ( Texas) Rector had a meeting in University of Texas at Austin, where he informed the University representatives about activities of RTU and reached an agreement on closer cooperation of both universities, including academic staff and student Exchange programmes.

The representatives of the University of Texas acknowledged that for both universities a common area of activities is research of alternative energies. The American collegues are experienced researchers of shale gas; both universities could also cooperate in researching nuclear energy.
