Research efficiency of Riga Technical University (RTU) has been ranked as the 7th best in the new «European Ranking of Engineering Programmes 2019» – «EngiRank»), where 100 higher education institutions have been evaluated from 13 countries that joined the European Union in 2004 or later. The rating has evaluated the potential of innovations, research, studies, cooperation and knowledge transfer in the engineering education.

«EngiRank» has classified European technological universities, comparing their performance in key engineering fields – civil engineering, power engineering, electronics and information engineering, environmental engineering, material science, mechanical engineering and medical engineering. Technical universities have also been assessed based on four criteria: innovation, research efficiency, quality of study and internationalisation.

The highest assessed criterion of RTU is research efficiency – there RTU is acknowledged as the 7th best, comparing to the rest of the universities, whereas in innovation RTU is assessed as the 16th best. Regarding evaluation of the fields of engineering, the highest assessment – the 6th place – is for civil engineering, which is the highest assessment among all universities of the Baltic States.

The first place in the ranking is taken by Warsaw University of Technology, the second by AGH University of Science and Technology (both from Poland) and the third by the University of Chemistry and Technology, Prague, Czech Republic.

The number of universities rated next year is expected to be increased to include all technical universities of Europe. The ranking is formed by the Polish Foundation for the Development of the Education System.
