Riga Technical University (RTU) has been ranked in the 751 to 800 range of QS World University Rankings 2018, which is the highest score among three Latvian universities included in the ranking. RTU received the highest ranking for employer reputation, as well as international students.

«Since last year, when RTU was for the first time included in QS World University Rankings, for the second consecutive year in the evaluation of this international rating agency, we are the leading university in Latvia. Overall rating results show that competition is increasing and it is increasingly difficult for Latvian universities to compete internationally due to low funding. Although RTU demonstrates the best performance in Latvia, we must set our ambitions internationally in order to compete with the leading universities of the region,» emphasizes Juris Iljins, Director of RTU Quality Management and Record Management Department.

1000 higher education institutions from 85 countries included in the ranking were assessed taking into consideration six factors – Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Citations per Paper, Faculty/Student Ratio, as well as International Faculty and International Students. In three criteria – Employer Reputation, International Students, and Faculty/Student Ratio – RTU has shown the highest results. From Latvia, also the University of Latvia and Riga Stradins University were included in the ranking reaching the range of 801 to 1000.

The assessment of Academic Reputation and Employer Reputation is based on extensive international surveys, i.e. employers and academicians not only from Latvia but also from other countries expressed opinion about RTU. The performance of higher education institutions in other criteria was assessed on the basis of submitted data that were verified according to internationally available information.

The same as last year, Massachusetts Institute of Technology was ranked in first place, Stanford University – second and Harvard University – third. The results of the ranking were published on June 6.
