Riga Technical University (RTU) Design Factory in cooperation with RTU Study and Science Centre in Cesis is developing educational exhibits for the future Space Research Centre, which will be located in Cesis.

In order to promote the development of knowledge among children and young people and to attract career choices in STEM, offering innovative solutions for popularization of education and science, Cesis municipality implements the project Development of Innovation Centre in Cesis (NFI/IC/VIAA/2020/3). The project is implemented with the support of the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism and Norway Grants within the framework of the 2014-2021 Research and Education Programme under the activity Innovation Centres.

Space Research Center facilities and interest education programs are space-themed, covering various aspects – society, cosmology, technology, health and living in space. The interest education classes and interactive exhibitions will answer questions such as: why do people want to fly into space, what are the biggest secrets of space that help to fly into space, how to prepare for the space flight, what do people need to live beyond the planet Earth, etc.

For the implementation of the project, Cesis municipality has signed cooperation agreements with the Norwegian Space Education Centre Andoya Space Education and RTU. Andoya Space Education is ready to assist in the development and deployment of interactive educational activities, classes and workshops on space themes, while RTU is developing and creating educational exhibits. The agreement also provides for both partners to participate in publicity and in the organization of target audience engagement events.

The contract for the establishment of the Innovation Centre in Cesis was signed on 10 August 2020 between the municipality and the State Education and Development Agency. The total cost of the project is 2.15 million euro.
