In order to get familiarised with the results of infrastructural projects performed by Riga Technical University (RTU) and to express gratitude for the current successful cooperation, Vice-President of the Council of Europe Development Bank (CEB) Tomáš Boček visited the RTU Campus and met with RTU administration on 18 October.
During a meeting with the RTU Rector Leonīds Ribickis, Vice-Rector for Finance Ingars Eriņš and Director of the Department of Financial Planning and Management Edgars Bunka, T. Boček, when awarding the Recognition Medal, expressed gratitude to RTU and its Rector for the successfully implemented infrastructural construction and renovation project, having observed both the set budget and the performance deadlines.
By using financing granted by CEB, the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology building and the Domus Auditorialis lecture-room building have been built, as well as buildings of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Transport and Aeronautics and the Faculty of Civil Engineering have been renovated at RTU Ķīpsala Campus.
RTU and CEB management have agreed that EPAB financing is highly important for ensuring and developing the qualitative higher education and research, as, in view of beneficial terms and conditions of the loan, higher education establishments can make significant contributions in their development.
The RTU agreement with CEB was signed in December 2018 and the bank’s financing was used for co-funding the development of the second stage of RTU Ķīpsala Campus.
The CEB was established in 1956 and it provides loans and issues guarantees to 41 banks of Member States. Latvia became the CEB member state in 1998.
The CEB invests in educational and social projects to promote social inclusion and improve living conditions for residents in Europe. The bank pays special attention to the quality of projects and their social impact, as well as provides technical assistance and project supervision during the entire project introduction cycle.
