Science and Innovation Centre

Competencies of the team of highly qualified experts of the Science and Innovation Centre meet an excellent technical support – the best-equipped prototyping workshop in the Baltic States and supercomputing resources. The Centre develops student innovation and entrepreneurial capacity, promotes knowledge transfer processes, offers services to entrepreneurs and scientific institutions, and actively involves in local and international innovation ecosystems.

The goal of the Centre activities is to ensure implementation of the RTU strategy and sustainable valorisation goals and growth by promoting scientific activities and the involvement of academic staff and students in innovation and knowledge transfer processes, as well as by developing cooperation with industry and scientific institutions.

The Science and Innovation Centre consists of:

In order to develop the innovative thinking, creative skills and entrepreneurial capacity of students, the Design Factory, which not only provides access to an open-type workshop «theLAB» but also implements the «Innovation Grants for Students» project (ERDF co-financed project No 1.1.1.3/18/A/001 «RTU Innovation Grants for Students»), is included in the Science and Innovation Centre. Students of all levels will find here a suitable programme for promoting their skills and establishing professional contacts.
 
The focus of activities of the Innovative Product Development Unit is on the efficient creation of innovative high-value added products, as well as research and improvement of existing products and services in cooperation with industry and scientific institutions.
 
The Innovation Ecosystem Development Unit promotes RTU involvement in local and international innovation and technology ecosystems, including by implementing programmes of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), performing educational work and supporting startups in the implementation of sustainable business ideas.
 
The Scientific Equipment Unit supports the development of science by providing modern research equipment and is proud of its High-Performance Computing or HPC Centre, which develops the use of digital technologies in research.

Design Factory

To develop innovative thinking of students, creative and entrepreneurial skills, the Design Factory – part of the Design Factory Global Network has been operating at RTU since 2016. It has an open-type workshop «theLAB».

A team that manages to effectively create innovative high added value products by combining powerful intellectual and technical resources.

Innovation Ecosystem Development Unit

Implements local and international education, business support, research and networking programmes, including activities of the Knowledge and Innovation Communities of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology.
