Following a successful launch of the doctoral postgraduate study programme in «Particle Physics and Accelerator Technologies» in 2021, an initiation of the development of an equivalent master’s study programme by the RTU Institute of Particle Physics and Accelerator Technologies is foreseen.
Together with the development of our Ķīpsala campus, we at RTU strive to further develop the study opportunities available at our university at all levels. A complementary master’s study programme in «Particle Physics and Accelerator Technologies» will provide our students with a crucial stepping-stone towards continuing their development as early-careers researchers in the fields of high-energy physics and accelerator technologies during their doctoral studies, either in Latvia or abroad. Alternatively, this study programme will provide the graduating bachelor’s students with a chance to spend a couple more years further increasing their knowledge and skills before they enter the job market as a truly highly-skilled workforce.
We foresee that this programme will borrow some of the study courses designed for the doctoral programme, as well as include some tailored specifically for the master’s level. Likewise, the students will enjoy similar opportunities of joining research projects, which, though narrower in scope than those at the doctoral level, will also contribute to fundamental science.
The aim is to complete development of the master’s programme by the start of the academic year of 2024/25.
