Latvian scientists from Riga Technical university and Riga Stradins university participated at the 12th Trans-European School of High Energy Physics took place in Poltava, Ukraine from July 13 to July 20, 2018. The school was hosted by Poltava University of Economics and Trade (PUET) in cooperation with Le Centre national de la recherche scientifique, L'Université Paris-Saclay, CERN, Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, SENSE project and other partners.

The core lecture program addressed Experimental Particle Physics, Standard Model and Beyond, Cosmology, Statistics and Instrumentation. The lectures were complemented by the practical sessions, discussion sessions and student-professor discussions.

RTU scientist Guntis Pikurs presented ARIES «Proof of Concept» project at dedicated conference at the end of the school. RTU is a leading partner at project «Development of hybrid electron accelerator system for the treatment of marine diesel exhaust gases». This project aims to use innovative particle accelerator technology usage for ship diesel exhaust gas treatment to meet new ecological regulations.

RSU scientist Dr. Jevgenijs Proskurins acknowledged that obtained knowledge, information and skills will be used to improve the study courses, as well as to promote High Energy Physics in the community of nuclear medicine, radiology and medical physics. Also useful contacts of possible partners will definitely help to elaborate scientific cooperation, for example, in the framework of «CERN-Medicis» or «OMA» project.
