RTU FMETA Institute of Biomedical Engineering and Nanotechnologies (BINI) provides studies in the following study programmes :

  • Nanoengineering - Master studies, graduates will get a Masters degree in Nanoengineering;
  • Medicine Engineering and Physics; studies takes place in partnership with Riga Stradiņš University:
    • Bachelor's studies, graduates will earn a Bachelor's degree in Medical Physics and Engineer Qualification of Physical Technologies in Medicine;
    • Master studies, graduates will get a Masters degree in Medical Physics.

Studies can be continued at Doctoral level.

Nanoengineering products are used daily. These products are radically changing the technologies used today in all areas of human activity – manufacturing, medicine, energy, environmental engineering, transport, etc. Nanoengineering products are used daily. The results of the sector are radically changing the technologies used today in all areas of human activity – manufacturing, medical, energy, environmental engineering, transport, etc. More and more investments are being invested in nanoengineering. In several countries, including Latvia, nanotechnologies have been identified as a strategic.

Modern medicine makes extensive use of engineering and physics-based technologies that provide treatment and diagnosis at the molecular level.

BINI researchers and teaching staff, together with students do research in following fields:

  • Non-destructive control electromagnetic technologies of materials;
  • Electron spectroscopy for surface studies;
  • Change in electronic properties of various materials (biomaterials, biological tissues, semiconductors) caused by various factors (radiation, chemical and mechanical treatment);
  • Nanodosimetry;
  • Biochip technologies;
  • Applications of intelligent textile for walking analysis, motion tilting and physiological measurements;
  • Compounds of non-organic nanoparticles with virus-like particles for immunomodulation;
  • Powder material technologies;
  • And others.

BINI is equipped with modern hardware for studies and research. The Institute has extensive international cooperation.
