The Department of History and Theory of Architecture

Academics of the Department of History and Theory of Architecture lecture and conduct classes in all study courses related to Latvia’s and the world’s history of art and architecture and carry out of scientific research in the sphere of the history of architecture and the preservation of cultural monuments.

The Department of Architectural Design

The Department of Architectural Design ensures study courses for prospective architects to acquire knowledge, skills and abilities for the creation of contemporary building and environmental development projects that meet aesthetic, functional and technological requirements. Researchers and academics of the department also conduct scientific research in the sphere of architecture. 

Department of Fine Arts 

The Department of Fine Arts promotes the activities and manifestations of artistic creation of both students and faculty memebers, as well as of the wider society. Led by the academics of the department, prospective architects study drawing, painting, book graphics, etc. techniques.
The Department of Fine Arts ensures the organization of preparatory courses in drawing.

Centre for Urban Planning

The Centre for Urban Planning aims to coordinate and carry out research on sustainable urban development. The Centre's core tasks are:

  • to conduct holistic and integrated cross-sectoral research concerning the recognition and resolution of urban  problems;
  • to promote the research work of bachelor's, master's and doctoral students within the scope of the competence of the Centre;
  • to train skilled experts and researchers;  to interact with other organisations and bodies in the implemention of research work undertaken;
  • to foster networking in applied and fundamental cross-sectoral research with universities, public and local institutions, professional associtions and  commercial bodies;
  • to ensure consultations for companies and individuals.
