RTU Calls for Participation in Space Tech Hackathon

The final session of «ActInSpace» international space tech hackathon will be held on November 13th and 14th at Riga Technical University (RTU) Design Factory. The winners will get a chance to present their prototype in the international final in Toulouse, France, and compete for grand prize worth up to €100,000.

The 24-hour «ActInSpace» hackathon is organized by the French Space Agency and the European Space Agency. It is biennially organized in the whole world.

Anybody can participate in the hackathon, no prior experience is needed, as outstanding technology and business experts will work with the participants, give advice and share their knowledge. Among the mentors, there will be IT, electronics and environmental monitoring experts and business development specialists and members of Latvian Space Industry Association (LAIK). Members of the hackathon will also be able to contact and receive advice from experts abroad.

Participants will work in teams of maximum five people. Teams will have to come up with a solution to some of the challenges defined by the organizers of the global hackathon «ActInSpace». There is wide range of challenge topics – artificial intelligence, health care, aviation, telecommunications, logistics, climate technologies, security, energy, agriculture, etc. As organizers point out, space resources play a key role in many processes on Earth, so hackathon experts and mentors will explain the functions of space technologies and help find ways how to use the newly gained knowledge to build prototypes.

Winners of the Latvian final will get entry tickets to the international final «ActInSpace», that is the opportunity to present their prototype in Toulouse. Whereas, members of the international hackathon will compete for a number of impressive prizes. The grand prize will be the opportunity to put yourself in astronauts’ shoes – a Zero-G Airbus A310 parabolic flight. Participants will compete for the Airbus Entrepreneurship Prize – €100,000 of satellite-derived data from the Airbus OneAtlas digital platform. There will also be possibility to win a flight training session on an A320 simulator and visit of satellite integration room and 3D facilities, win a tour in SUEZ Research and Operations Center and other valuable prizes. 

«ActInSpace» hackathon in Latvia is organizes by the Ministry of Education and Science, the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia, LAIK, and supported by ERDF and RTU.
