Activities at RTU will continue in a semi-remote mode

Following the removal of the emergency restrictions caused by Covid-19, Riga Technical University continues its work in a semi-remote mode starting June 10, in order to reduce the risk to the health of RTU students, staff and visitors. During gatherings and events, students, employees and visitors must observe epidemiological security measures that have been introduced in the country.

Studies are still in the remote mode 
The study process at RTU is still organised remotely, using e-learning environment, distance learning and electronic interaction tools and video broadcasting. Remote studies are held on three Internet platforms, where online lectures can be provided, and in RTU E-study environment (Moodle), where the teaching staff can upload study materials, presentations, home assignments and tests, as well as other information needed for the studies. 

At RTU online lectures are provided on Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Cisco Webex platforms, where video lectures, webinars and online chat can be organised, as well as lectures can be recorded and students can watch them later at any time. 

If remote studies are not possible, for example, laboratory work, examinations or presentations of graduate papers, it is possible to do it on-site. In this case, a maximum of 50 persons, including students and teaching staff, are allowed to be present in one room at the same time, for a maximum of 3 hours, reducing this period as much as possible. It is recommended that inside the premises students use personal facemasks.

A distance of 2 metres must be observed between persons, while a period of not less than 30 minutes must be allowed between two events in the same room during which the room must be ventilated and surfaces must be cleaned with a disinfectant. 

Multiple restrictions must be observed in the library
RTU Scientific Library has opened the reading room on the 1st floor of the Central Library at 5 Paula Valdena Street. Entrance from the Zunda Canal side, on weekdays from 10.00–16.00.
Readers should note that when they arrive, they will need to register and at the same time not more than 25 persons can be in the same room and they can stay for a maximum of three hours. Visitors must also observe two-metre distance. The books used in the reading room must be left on the reading room tables.

The books must be reserved in advance and they can be collected on the next day after reservation at 5 Paula Valdena Street, 1st floor. Books can be reserved by sending an email to , , ; in the ORTUS section «Library»; as well as PRIMO. Consultations on reservation of books are available by phone 67089308, 67089450, 67089468, 67089102 on weekdays from 9.00–17.00.

Books can be returned in the automatic book transfer machine at the entrance of the Central Library at 5 Paula Valdena Street.

You can access the database of Latvian Standards in the reading room on the 1st floor of the Central Library at 5 Paula Valdena Street.

RTU Scientific Library invites readers to use its e-resources available on ORTUS or library webpage. For consultations on the use of e-resources, call 67089102 on weekdays from 9:00–17:00.

Limited activities at the Design Factory 
The work of open-type workshop «theLAB» of RTU Design Factory, where RTU students, employees and scientists have the opportunity to create their inventions by using the technological capabilities of 3D printing, laser cutting and engraving, plotter, large-format printing and other auxiliary equipment, is limited until June 22. Until June 22, the workshop is not freely available to any interested person, but trainees of RTU Design Factory will work there on developing orders. Students who need 3D printing, laser cutting or plotter are invited to fill out a form and upload files and upon individual agreement receive their orders at 6 Ķīpsala Street.

The activities implemented by RTU Design Factory within the education and business support programmes have also been rescheduled. This concerns «Demola Latvia», «RTU IdeaLAB», «Vertical Integrated Project», «Product Development Project», «Co.Lab» activities of the «RTU Innovation Grants for Students» project, as well as «EIT Climate-KIC» and «EIT Food» programmes. Networking activities are rescheduled to the period after 9 June, while co-lecturing and individual work is organized remotely, for example, teams of the «Vertically Integrated Project» are working remotely at the discretion of the head of each group, «RTU IdeaLAB», «Demola Latvia» will continue their team work individually or with mentors online, while the «Product Development Project» lectures are held in video format. Programme coordinators will personally inform participants about the topicalities.

Covid-19 has also introduced changes in the procedure of the annual 3D printing competition, organised by RTU Student Parliament and Design Factory in cooperation with coach and mechanic of the Latvian national luge team Mārtiņš Rubenis, to create an award prototype for the Luge World Cup tournament held in Sigulda. The competition is organized in a digital format and the winners of the completion will be announced on June 18, when the final of the competitions is schedules. 

Employees work remotely 
Directors of RTU structural units allow their employees to work remotely whenever possible.
It is allowed to plan business trips and work visits to Lithuania and Estonia, but to other countries trips are allowed taking into consideration recommendations of the Center for Disease Prevention and Control.
A maximum of 100 participants are allowed to gather for an event in premises, taking into account epidemiological security measures and regulations of the Center for Disease Prevention and Control.
