They have brought about revolutionary changes in many spheres of our life, but this is only the beginning of the development. Today we witness the process of merging of information technologies and telecommunications, since both of them use a common base of electronic elements and methodology. FET graduates working in their profession can feel the challenge posed by the contemporary world – they should flexibly respond to the changes by constantly upgrading their skills and knowledge and by being active members of the global information society. FET incorporates:
Institute of Radio Electronics; The position of any state in the world and its level of development is evaluated by the level of development of its telecommunications infrastructure. Therefore the work of academic staff and researchers of the Faculty directly contributes to the development of our state. The RTU Centre of Distance Learning has a relevant role in the operation of the Faculty. The task of the Centre is to organize the development of distance learning courses and studies in the distance learning medium. The Centre is equipped with up-to-date telecommunications (ISDN videoconferences) and multi-media equipment. Faculty staff and students are involved in the development of multi-media study materials and virtual forums via the Internet. By working with distance learning programmes Faculty staff are contributing to the development of e-education of the young generation. FET graduates work in major electronics and telecommunications organisations and representations of multinational companies operating in Latvia. The development of mobile telecommunications, cable television and computer networks, as well as consolidation of radio and television broadcasting stations creates an increased demand for electronics and telecommunications specialists and it may be forecasted that the demand for these specialists will continue to grow. |
