RTU ranked among 2.5% of world leading universities

Riga Technical University (RTU) has been ranked in the 651 to 700 range of QS World University Rankings 2018, which attests that RTU is among 2.5% of world’s top universities. RTU has received the highest ranking among higher education institutions in Latvia. The University reputation among employers has been assessed on a high level – in this category RTU has been recognised as the 193rd best in the world. 

RTU Academician Leonīds Ribickis states, «The ranking of RTU among 700 world’s top universities shows the rapid development of RTU. RTU has been ranked among 200 top universities in terms of employer reputation and this proves that Latvian and foreign employers highly evaluate the quality of engineering specialists educated at RTU. The world’s leading university rankings such as QS World University Rankings and Times Higher Education are a good indicator for determining which universities in Latvia are internationally competitive and which are not».

All 980 higher education institutions included in the ranking were assessed taking into consideration six factors – Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation, Citations per Paper, Faculty/Student Ratio, as well as International Faculty and International Students. In three criteria – International Faculty and International Students, and Employer Reputation – RTU has shown the highest results in Latvia. According to employer reputation in Latvia and worldwide, RTU was ranked 193rd in the world. From Latvia, also the University of Latvia was included in the ranking reaching the range of 701 to 750.

The assessment of Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation is based on extensive international surveys, i.e. employers and academicians not only from Latvia but also from other countries expressed opinion about RTU. The performance of higher education institutions in other criteria was assessed on the basis of submitted data that were verified according to internationally available information.

Massachusetts Institute of Technology was ranked in first place, Stanford University – second and Harvard University – third.

RTU is included in The Times Higher Education World University Rankings, QS Stars, U-Multirank and Green Metric rankings. RTU graduate employability, cooperation with companies, internationalisation, as well as environmental policy and sustainability have been highly evaluated in these rankings.
