RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year

In order to promote RTU scientific activities, encourage involvement of young scientists in research and assess results of RTU scientists, in 2015 the first contest for the honorary title of «RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year» was announced. Filling in the application form, it is necessary to specify the applicant’s achievements in scientific activities for the current and the previous calendar year, such as: organizational work in research, scientific activities and institutions, international scientific publications, funding attracted to RTU, number of supervised PhD students, number of elaborated and defended Doctoral Theses under the supervision of the applicant, participation in research projects, received patents and licenses or other creative achievements.

RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year 2016

The honorary title of «RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year 2016» has been awarded to Kristine Salma-Ancane, Leading Researcher of the Institute of General Chemical Engineering, Faculty of Materials Science and Applied Chemistry.

In 2015 and 2016, the young scientist was a co-author of ten publications indexed in SCOPUS  and Web of Science databases. During this period, under the guidance of K. Salma-Ancane two Doctoral Theses have been elaborated, five Bachelor Theses and one Master Thesis have been elaborated and defended.

Kristine Salma-Ancane is the expert of the Latvian Council of Science in Materials Sciences and General Chemical Technology. She is a board member of the Latvian Materials Research Society and a Chair of Biomaterials Section. K. Salma-Ancane is a representative of Latvia to the Council of European Ceramic Society, member of the European Ceramic Society and member of the Association of Latvian Young Scientists. 

The young scientist has given a significant contribution to popularization of science and pupils’ scientific research paper elaboration.

In 2016, Kristine Salma-Ancane has been granted the L’Oreal Latvian Scholarship «For Women in Science».

The Award «RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year 2016» was awarded to Kristine Salma-Ancane during the plenary session of RTU 57th International Scientific Conference on 14 October 2016.

RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year 2015

In 2015, an honorary title of RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year was awarded to the Director of RTU Rudolfs Cimdins Riga Biomaterials Innovations and Development Centre, leading researcher of the Institute of General Chemical Technology of RTU Faculty of Materials Science and Applied Chemistry, assistant professor Dagnija Loča.

In 2014-2015, Dagnija Loča published eight research papers indexed in SCOPUS and Web of Science databases and one monograph. She took part in six scientific conferences in Poland, Latvia, the United Kingdom, and the Netherlands.   

In 2014-2015, she led six research projects and was the leading performer within five research projects. She supervised two Bachelor and one Doctoral Thesis. In this period of time RTU attracted 361,750 EUR under the lead of Dagnija Loča.

Dagnija Loča is an expert of the Latvian Scientific Council in Pharmacology, General Chemical Technology, Materials Science, expert of RTU Promotional Council P-18, member of the Scientific Council of SJSC Latvijas Jūras administrācija, Chair of the Board of the Latvian Materials Research Society, as well as a member of the Association of Latvian Young Scientists.  

RTU Young Female Scientist of the Year 2015 Dagnija Loča was honored at the Plenary Session of the 56th RTU International Scientific Conference on 14 October 2015.
