RTU encourages students to enrich their study and practical experience abroad – in partner higher educational institutions and enterprises of the European Union. The International Relations Office under the RTU International and Public Relations Department is an RTU structural unit that students can contact for information, practical guidance and advice on international cooperation of higher schools, different possibilities for obtaining scholarships, special offers from cooperation partner universities to RTU students, possibilities of undertaking a practical placement in EU enterprises. To enhance RTU students’ competitiveness not only in the Latvian labor market, but also globally, the IPRD offers students different opportunities in cognizing the world.

  • Currently the most popular education programme among RTU students is the EU educational programme Erasmus, which allows to undertake studies in one of the partner higher educational institutions in Europe or to obtain international experience through practical placement in enterprises of the European Union for a period from 3 months to 1 academic year. RTU has cooperation agreements with higher schools in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Hungary, Germany, Greece, Great Britain, Italy, Lithuania, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Slovenia, Slovakia, Finland, Spain, Switzerland,  Sweden, as well as with enterprises in Germany, Portugal, Finland, Italy and Greece.
  • Scholarship programmes of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) offer opportunities to undertake studies and research in Germany.
  • Different scholarships granted by governments of different countries also help students improve their foreign language proficiency and develop their professional competence behind the borders of the European Union, e.g., in Japan, USA, Israel, China and Mexico.
  • The International Relations Office offers students an opportunity to participate in international summer schools and courses hosted by RTU – which is a good way of expanding one’s horizons of knowledge and cross-cultural awareness, to acquire better understanding of other cultures and traditions and, as a result, broaden the circle of friends.

An important prerequisite for qualifying for a scholarship is good command of foreign languages. In addition to the courses included in RTU study programmes, the Language Centre of the RTU International and Public Relations Department offers courses for improving English and German language proficiency. The Language Centre offers help in preparing for the English language proficiency assessments IELTS, TOEFL and the German language assessment TestDaF. TestDaF can be taken several times during the academic year and yields the language proficiency certificate required for studies at German higher schools.

New discoveries are usually made either by the wise or the adventuresome. By offering opportunities to discover the world anew, the staff of the RTU International and Public Relations Department are glad to help students are willing to undertake studies abroad to make a decision on undertaking studies abroad and, at the same time, are adventuresome enough to take up this challenge and, in spite of all obstacles, successfully fulfill their expectations.
